On the one hand, Bangladesh prides itself on being the world’s second-biggest garment exporter after China, on another, it has one of the most polluted rivers in South Asia- Buriganga or Old Ganges 21,600 cubic meters of toxic waste are released into the river by the tanneries every day. Untreated sewage, byproducts of fabric dyeing, and other chemical waste from mills and factories located close to the river flow virtually uninhibited into the Buriganga. Why is the government of Bangladesh not doing enough to save the dying river?

China Warns US It Could Retaliate Over Iran Sanctions | GRAVITAS

The Trump administration has launched “Operation Economic Outcast,” a sweeping campaign designed to squeeze Iran’s financial lifelines and pressure countries doing business with Tehran. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned that countries could face sanctions if they continue economic ties with Iran. More than 60 Iran-linked individuals and entities have already been targeted, while Washington is threatening broader secondary sanctions.
But the strategy faces a major obstacle: China, Iran’s biggest oil customer. Beijing has warned it could retaliate against U.S. measures targeting Chinese companies involved in Iranian trade.
