President Zelensky returned from the United States with a new Patriot missile deal, but Ukraine still faces a serious winter interceptor gap. Kyiv has reported an acute shortage of Patriot interceptors since the US and Israel went to war with Iran in February, which diverted advanced systems and supplies. Even if licences for Ukrainian production are approved, building capacity would take more than a year
Russia is exploiting the opening. Russian forces are firing Geran drones that flies faster and higher than older Shaheds, reducing the response time for defenders.
