Any Israelis in here? I keep hearing this judicial reform being blamed for the 10/7 attacks. Is this “reasonableness clause” really at the heart of the judicial reform debate? Activist judges are an enormous threat to democracy. Without getting rid of that you by definition have one branch of government with exponentially more power than the executive or judiciary. Is this what it’s really all about? The entire problem is that he’s trying to make Israel’s system match other democracies with co-equal branches? This shouldn’t be so controversial. If you have elections for judges then a reasonableness clause effectively makes those elections more important than any other. There must be more to thins story. Incan’t believe Israelis could be this crazy.

Not really a terrible thing in my opinion. It's just basically feudalism isn't it? Except the rich people get to vote for who is in power. There's a reason it's not in the US Constitution. It goes back to Alexander the Great. He had the cities vote him in power and went across a murderous rampage across the Middle East. He got stopped in Pakistan or somewhere. The founders didn't want any part of democracy.
