   It's just a platform, the censorship is strong enough in eta platforms, parenting are failing. They provide mobile phones to children at an early age what makes these kind of problem.

   Like if any child starts shooting in a school or some area due to emotional breakdown, is it the fault of the gun making companies?

   Blame their parents. Why do you give mobile phone to you children? Internet is like a double-edged sword, children are not mature enough to understand whats right or wrong.
   Parents should monitor their children and should take all the responsibilities. "Instagram is just a platform".
   You don't punish a sword for killing people, you punish its wielder.
   Like wise i don't think Mark is to be blamed.

    This is just how America behave, lots of talks very little action, these senators said a lot of irrational statements too. meanwhile, If you are a guy and said anything inappropriate on twitch stream, you are banned. but twitch will give suggestions of topless girls streaming on your homepage but they are never banned, while a guy will talk to customer care and do several things to uplift ban. Do the same thing. ban facebook first then let meta do something which satisfy American Authority, only then allow facebook.

    I recently opened a fb account for my 60+ uncle..he's not a tech savvy and barely uses it..but for some reason fb decided that he needs some color in his sad old life and kept bombing absurd, disgusting nude content, from different countries. He came to me saying can you please check and close this, I don't want to use this fb thing..I was shocked to see the level of nudity allowed here in FB, it took me 30mins to clean his account, add sensible pages and groups so that he doesn't have to see this shit..it was the most disgusting experience I had in fb..

    Yeah right 😓 throwing money at problems always resolved the problems isn’t it? “Safety” is a bigger concern, sensoring social media platforms or holding only the social media platforms accountable is not going to solve social problems or safety issues, be it drugs or anything else. Yes, social media platforms are a part of the problem, but it’s not like they are the ones doing the whole drug or pedo business, nor are they willingly participating in it. You want safety? Then first ask why is the drug availability so easy in the city? That kids can connect with the providers on social media or through any other means, and get to buy the drugs easily. What’s the city administration doing, justice/legal/police system doing? Social media platforms are a small unwilling part of this problem and they could do more to keep their platforms safe, but extorting money out of them is not going to solve the problem. And, these drug businesses usually run smoothly because usually politicians are in their pockets. So, may be they should first investigate those whose primary responsibility is to ensure city’s/state’s/country’s safety, and then go to the next secondary, tertiary etc layers of the problems.

    People who are commenting that parents should be responsible clearly have never raised a child. It is just not possible to isolate a child in today's world, it is not possible for any parents to monitor every online move of their kids. Kids are curious, experimental by nature. It takes time to learn self control, to comprehend the ill effects of certain seemingly harmless actions.

    @wion usually exaggerates the news, but this is on a whole new level… meta's AI models "predicts" if a content is predatory, but does NOT know for certain… if it knows for certain they would remove it… thats why you see only warnings… you cant blame a company for their technical incometence to fix a complex problem…
    @WION do your homework before reporting the news…
