   Hey BN fam, I just thought I would clarify the difference between shelf life and expiry date.

   Shelf life is the time that the product can be guaranteed to be in good condition. If you buy makeup directly from a brand, it should be well under the shelf life expiry date so it gives you enough time to use the product while it is still fresh. If you have makeup that is passed the shelf life, but it is unopened, it still can be safe to use but it may have started to slightly dry out or deteriorate.

   The period after opening date is when the product will expire after you have opened it. Most cosmetic products will have a symbol that tells you that date in months or years, and you will need to look at each item specifically as it varies from product to product. This is the date that the product will expire and it is related to the product breaking down after opening due to oxidation and microbiological factors. This is why it is important to keep back ups unopened until you are ready to use it. 

   These websites can tell you when a product has been produced and roughly what the shelf life is by the product batch code, but it won't tell you if it has expired because that is related more to when you opened the product.

   Bought the too faced peach glow palette from Mecca in October 2020, check the manufacturing date and it turns out it was made in August 2012…what on gods earth

   Check Fresh has just advised that my Too Faced Born This Way Concealer was produced 8 years ago, wow, thats an eye opened. I also checked my Cookie highlighter and thats a year old, my Too Faced Diamond light is 15 months old

   I came across 2 large tool box of No7 lipsticks-loose powders and foundations-eyeshadows-clushers that had never been opened-

   The colours are so beautiful and I went into a different plandt of my own and had a great day lnking through it-

   Found mary quant and good old yardley lipsticks-all 25 years old-

   The makeup had never been used and if its not open its fine- I used them and nothing happened and no allergic reaction-

   The colours are so bdautiful and you dont get the colours they made in the old days-

   These days the colours I find are okish but the old colours are to die for-

   My oldest makeup is actually a lipstick bullet that my mom had which I stole from her (don't tell her, it was a really pretty bronze metallic). It's been EXTREMELY well used, to the point that it now looks like a phillips screwdriver head instead of a lipstick bullet and it has about a cm and a half (or so) of product left, including the screwdriver head tip. It's a Maybelline Colorsensational lipstick and I am sure that I will never use it again. (Yes I have used it, I used it about a year or so ago and I was naive and now praise the universe that I didn't die from using it.) Instead I will put it up in a china cabinet and when I'm old and gray, I'll point to it and say that it's a historical piece.

    The same as food expiry, it depends on the conditions it's kept in and what the ingredients are.

    My oldest makeup product is a lip gloss my mum bought me when I was 13, I am now 50. I dont use it anymore, but keep it in my drawer for nostalgic reasons and smile when I see it. I agree with the comments that if a product still works and does not smell 'off' or make my skin react badly I will keep using it. The only product I am constantly throwing away before the used by date is mascara. An eye infection is not worth the risk and the formulas don't last long anyway. Love the outfit Kat, these colours suit you.

    I've literally got some 20 year old Bare Minerals loose shadows I need to toss😄 Do I use them? Nope😄 They're just pretty!

    I have an old Sugarpill Dollipop from like 2013 that I'll never let go of lol I'm trying to pan all my old OCC products, but I'm a little bummed I won't be able to repurchase any of them.

    My oldest make-up is an eyeshadow my sister gave my when I was 13 years old. I am now 35 years and 6 months old… I don't use that eyeshadow, I just like to keep it as it was my first eyeshadow ever ❤️

    I just finally tossed my limited edition ABH pallet and it broke my heart. But it made me feel better knowing it was well well loved, and I had just upgraded to modern renaissance and a tiny Viseart. It was like 6 years old hahah

    I have an eyeshadow from Hard Candy from when they were a high end makeup brand at Ulta. I also have a cream blush from an old brand they used to sell at Sephora called Rocket City (it's beautiful!).

    Here is a thing i have a lot of makeup and skin care products that i bought but i used them later, i cheked their expiery date , they are old but i opend them new i dont want to get rid of them , alot of them is expensive , so do i can contiue to use them or not ??

    This is honestly such a good argument for not overconsuming products. I'm gonna have some fun decluttering using those sites. I'll probably keep most high quality eyeshadows but might spray them with a makeup sanitiser. I definitely have some lipsticks that could do with binning!

    I used one of these websites to search for a code on the back of one of my oldest urban decay pallettes which is maybe a decade old (I don't still use it, it's just hard to part ways with it) and it told me it was manufactured this year. I wonder if it's so old that they've started reusing their old codes 😭😭😭

    I checked my makeup as I watched this video. My oldest product was a MAC eyeshadow : 4 years, 9 months and 22 days…. I'm not surprised at the age of it. I am surprised at how pigmented it still is and how nice it smells.
