   The save from Don Hutchison defies belief. Hutchison absolutely leathered it from point blank range and Schmeichel saved it. Greatest goalkeeper in history

   3:14 Liverpool lost this game, and, ultimately ended up missing out on Champions League football the following game losing to Chelsea.. Chelsea get CL football, and it convinces Abramovich to buy Chelsea and not Liverpool.. massive reach, but you know, that save was massively important in PL history.

   That free kick he caught was heading for the top bin.
   No keeper in the world would catch that now, every single one would punch it clear.
   Guaranteed he launched past the half way line within seconds as well.

   This goalkeeper made so many mistakes, errors, fumbles. So crap. I hate that people think he was good. Clumsiest footballer ever to play the game

    The fact that it took until 2005 when Edwin van Der sar joined United to replace schmeichel speaks volumes how amazing he was

    I thought that you might have had that save in against Rapid Vienna in a Champions League tie, which was identical to Bank’s save from Pele in a 1970 World Cup group game.

    be alot less trophies at old trafford only for this man, keane lol am irsh and united fan but seriously newcaste didn't slip in 96 , schmeichel was world class , and when cantona scored one goal , peter stopped the opponents from scoring more goals . Fergusons most valuable signing . Used to be pretty obvious when he wasnt playing , did they ever win, like barcalona in 94 , sunderland nearly in fa cup in 96 , dortmund in 97 . Dont know bout arsenal in 98 but he was important . Never really replaced him until van der sar . And two of england best players fowler and le tissier had great moments against schmeichel .

    Schmeichel’s contemporaries were Seaman, Perruzzi, Kahn, Van Der Sar, Pagliuca and Barthez. And Peter was the best of the lot.

    Positionally the best keeper ever. He just knew where to put his body to cover most of the angle. His son is criminally underrated in my opinion.

    Greatest ever. He did this against the biggest rivals in the biggest games. This doesn’t even have his cup saves. He commanded his box and put in fear in everyone. These saves won Utd leagues

    Utd had a captains all over the pitch in those days
