I do think it is ridiculous if people think that MUA owned brands are made for MUA use. I think they are more for makeup enthusiasts to use on themselves! And as an MUA myself I don’t want clunky palettes with interesting shades. I do weddings and everyone wants the same, neutral look 🤷🏽♀️.
I do wonder if one of the reasons MAC has lost popularity is because of the insurgence of MUA owned brands, so MAC is less thought of as the “high quality, MUA favourite” brand. Oh, I also think (particularly in Australia), that now we have Sephora and MECCA stores, we have access to so many interesting and good quality international brands. Whereas before we only really had Priceline and then David Jones/Myer. But the counters in DJs/Myer were always the worst 😂. I’d always walk in and see the ladies at the counters and think, I want makeup advice from NONE OF YOU. Not that they’d talk to me, because I didn’t look old or rich enough.

Gosh I’ve been so confused watching back the previous episodes and hearing y’all talk about Em Cosmetics. My only memory of them is that terrible, terrible palette from their first ever release and how everyone hated it 😂.
Do love Michelle Phan though! Her videos taught me how to apply liquid eye liner and how to wash my brushes.

Watching this just now and loving the video. I do disagree on the mascara comment Jacob made but not on the performance issue. My problem with drugstore mascara is most of them make my eyes water, itch and swell. Not sure what’s causing it but it’s made me go off drugstore mascara.

Uhm, can we talk about how many BIPOC owned brands are mentioned here? The industry should pay attention, you're boring, bring in color… literally and figuratively.

I got turned off by Huda when she made her anti Israel posts on Instagram recently. I don’t buy much of her stuff anyway cuz like you’ve all said before I find her face on everything a bit much and the things I have tried to me weren’t anything special. But those posts were pretty much the nail in the coffin for me.

The number 1 Fenty Eyeshadow pallete (of the little 6 pan ones) is actually a great everyday pallete. It’s not too pigmented which is great to wear to work, which I see as a plus but if you want highly pigmented, glam eye shadow formula, this isn’t that.

i personally keep up with a chinese makeup brand called flower knows! their stuff isn't really revolutionary in terms of products released but their packaging is to die for (past collections that is- the current newest products are retro themed which isn't my fav but it's cute)

Em is also a Vietnamese word meaning young woman, younger sibling etc. Michelle is Vietnamese and I believe I've seen her mention the Vietnamese meaning before but I could be off base.

Selena Gomez has lupus so it wouldn't be surprising for her to want to make sure the packaging is easy open. When you're having a lupus flare, it can make your joints very stiff and lupus is often co morbid alongside other auto immune conditions like rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis.

Loved this podcast thing! Also- Haus beauty is disappointing as far as expecting great things from gaga, but I have been using their liners for months and re-purchase them on sale regularly and they are AMAZING (and great value, 10-12 USD when on sale, and they are on sale often). I use the black and brown and would purchase any new liner launch in a heartbeat, long-lasting, bold, easy to apply, and super lux. I have also been using the eyeshadow topper things (similar to Stila liquids) and they are fantastic, also much cheaper than Stila. I purchased a pallet on sale for about 10-15 USD and although it is not a color story I am drawn to the quality is great and the palette has a certain experience, comes in super cool packaging for gaga fans.
I am a Gaga fan but would not leave a positive review for her products or purchase them just because of her.

Makeup brands like Fenty and Kylie treat skincare like fast fashion. They’re basic and really only for people who could use drug store brands (neutrogena, simple, garnier, etc)… no one needs skincare from these brands!
The only brand I ever got legit excited for was Lisa Eldridge for obvious reasons. I never felt like I had to buy everything she offered and she doesn’t use or need shady marketing. People just trust her.

Danessa Myricks is THE brand I’m always excited about. Too bad it’s not mainstream status like the ones you’ve mentioned…
And yes, Paula’s Choice is fantastic. Super complex formulas, no dupes around (except maybe for the C15 booster, with Geek and Gorgeous C Glow)

Ahah! I love Lisa Eldridge Glosses. They feel like a lip oil but with more pigmentation, and I have very dry lips 🙂 the blushes are beautiful and very beginner friendly, the highlighter has a good formula especially for oilier skin (it sets and it’s not sticky).

Completely out of theme, I got Viseart Soleil La Plage palette and was surprised to see it contains 18g written on package. All of palettes of same series are listed as same weight. It just does not compute in my mind, my other palettes of same weight are 3-4 times bigger in package size and pans look 2 times bigger. Would you consider make episode of Makeup Breakup on palette of this series? It would be useful to see how it behaves after repressing also

I just tried Paula’s Choice’s BHA solution this month- can confirm, it’s fucking amazing. I also ordered a moisturizer, that was definitely a dud. Not terrible, but not enough for me.

Pat McGrath is on the same level as Gucci,Tom Ford, hour glass, Charlotte tilbury and some of the other brands named. Tom Ford foundation is $80 pats foundation is $67 I don’t get why she gets the most flack for her price. When CT has a palette with four shades for $57 dollars….. four little pans of pink.

I'm always excited to buy from Lisa eldridge. Best lip gloss formula out there and the new blush and highlighter are exactly what I was looking for and never found. On the drugstore pricepoint, BH cosmetics are killing it.

I’ve been using Paula’s Choice skincare for my entire routine for over 10 years, including the BHA, and my skin is phenomenal. I just saw they released a lip conditioner with hyaluronic acid that looks promising! Their hyaluronic booster has done wonders for my fine lines, so I’m more than likely going to pick up the new lip product.
