A 60-year-old man, identified as Aslam Isak Shaikh, tragically lost his life on July 2, 2026, after falling into an open manhole on Khairani Road in the Sakinaka area of Mumbai. The accident occurred amid severe waterlogging caused by heavy monsoon rainfall, which concealed the opening during ongoing drain maintenance work. Following the incident, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) suspended four officials, and an inquiry has been initiated into the safety lapses at the site.
