WhatsApp is not in trouble rather Indians are in trouble , they are vulnerable and their personal data are continuously being misused by these big tech giants .
We have lesser literacy and technological understanding that make use liable to be targeted badly .
So it should be the Government's responsibility to protect our interests.
We must have our own stricter Privacy policy like Europe .
Also we should have our own social media apps .

People are seriously misguided and delusional if they believe its only whatsapp that steals user data. Most apps, google search, etc is literally showing how your entire online history is literally out in the open. People sharing things on fb and their thoughts on twitter, do they believe that their info is not being used to show them what they want to see. The only way to stop this from happening is if our government holds them accountable like they do in the uk, us, etc.
