   I don't understand how the SCOTUS decision was "huge".

   It was a plain reading of the text of the 14th Amendment.

   Section 1: "No state shall make or enforce any law that shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States."

   Section 5: "The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article."

   Last I checked, eligibility to hold federal office in America is a privilege of US citizens.

   Section 1 prohibits states from, sua sponte, disqualifying anyone from running for or holding federal office. Section 5 designates the Congress as the sole body empowered to enact legislation regulating Sections 1 thru 4. Which means only federal prosecutors and federal courts are authorized to adjudicate Section 3.

   The ONLY federal legislation applicable here is 18 U.S. Code § 2383, and (arguably) 18 U.S. Code § 2384. Trump has been charged with neither.

   Not to mention that Jan 6 was never declared an insurrection by a Congressional Resolution. The only thing that came close to declaring Jan 6 an insurrection was the Article of Impeachment, which failed in the Senate.

   A plain reading of the text is all that was required here. That ANYONE thought even one SCOTUS justice would uphold the Colorado ruling is laughable.

   Section 1 of the 14th Amendment explicitly forbids what Colorado did, and to eliminate all confusion, Section 5 places all the power in these matters in the hands of the US Congress, and by extension, the federal courts.

   I'm not a lawyer. But this appears to be cut and dried.

    I personally don't care if Trump is president or not but you can guarantee that if the roles were reversed, this conversation would be happening on CNN and Fox news would be crying about states rights. That's just the state of news these days. Not even a hint of trying to be unbiased

    The disturbing thing is that me, as a layperson, I know how to read, I can see the Constitution says that Section 3 is enforced by Congress. How can lawyers and judges in Colorado think differently and then the SCOTUS says no. These folks in Colorado or otherwise really are criminal in intent and understanding of the law and Constitution.
