INTERVIEW QUESTION 1. TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF?
– Concentrate on telling them about your work-related skills as opposed to your home life. They are not interested in your home life.

– Download a copy of the person specification for the job and focus on telling them how your skills and attributes match the document.

– Use “power words” in your response, such as: motivated, enthusiastic, loyal, flexible, committed, honest, hard-working, adaptable etc. These will resonate positively with the interview panel.

INTERVIEW QUESTION 2. WHY DO YOU WANT TO WORK HERE?
– Tell them about the preparation work you have done in the build-up to the interview.

– Focus on the person specification, the job description and information you have gleaned from the company’s website and also the literature you have studied during your research.

INTERVIEW QUESTION 3. WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS?
– Again, focus on the person specification for the role you are applying for.

– Say something different that makes you stand out from the other job applicants. Give an example of why you are better than the other applicants and try to make yourself RELATABLE and REAL!

INTERVIEW QUESTION 4. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS’ TIME?
– Don’t tell them you plan to have moved on from their company, either internally or externally.

– Loyalty is very important to the vast majority of employers. Remember, they have to spend time, money and resources training you up in the role, so they will want to see a return on their investment.

– Don’t tell them you want to be sitting where they are!

INTERVIEW QUESTION 5. WHAT ARE YOUR WEAKNESSES?
– Anyone who tells the interview panel they have no weaknesses is telling porkies! We all have weaknesses.

– Don’t give a weakness that is one of the key requirements of the role. For example, if punctuality and good timekeeping are important, don’t tell the panel you struggle getting out of bed in the morning!

QUESTION 6. WHAT MAKES A GOOD TEAM MEMBER?
– List the qualities I am going to give you in the sample answer that follows.

– Back up your answer with a specific example of when YOU have worked well as part of a team using the STAR technique.

INTERVIEW QUESTION 7. WHEN HAVE YOU WORKED UNDER PRESSURE?
– Try to give an example of when you have carried out a difficult/pressurised task under strict time constraints.

– Give a specific example and don’t forget to use the STAR technique in your response.

HOW TO PASS A FIREFIGHTER INTERVIEW! (5 TIPS)
Firefighter interviews are tough because the Fire and Rescue Service is not simply looking for someone who is physically fit and wants to help people.

They are looking for someone who understands the role, can work safely as part of a team, remains calm under pressure, communicates professionally, follows procedures, embraces change and demonstrates the values and behaviours expected of a modern firefighter.

Here are my 5 tips for passing your firefighter interview.

TIP 1. LEARN THE FIREFIGHTER ROLE
Before your interview, read the firefighter job description carefully.

Do not make the mistake of thinking the role is just about responding to fires and emergencies.

Modern firefighters carry out prevention and protection work, engage with communities, conduct home fire safety visits, maintain equipment, complete training, work with partner organisations and respond to a wide range of emergencies, including road traffic collisions, flooding and rescues.

You must also understand the importance of teamwork, discipline, communication, risk assessment, equality and inclusion, and maintaining operational readiness.

ACTION POINT: Read the job description and make a list of the main duties. Next to each one, write down the skills and qualities required to perform it effectively.

TIP 2. RESEARCH THE FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE
One question you are likely to be asked is:

“Why do you want to join our Fire and Rescue Service?”

They ask this question because they want evidence that you have researched their organisation and are genuinely motivated to join them.

Before your interview, visit the Fire and Rescue Service website. Learn about its priorities, community work, prevention activities, current challenges and strategic objectives.

Most importantly, learn its values and behaviours.

You should be able to explain what those values mean to you and give examples of occasions when you have demonstrated them.

ACTION POINT: Learn the Fire and Rescue Service’s values and prepare one example of how you have demonstrated each important value or behaviour.

TIP 3. PREPARE FOR THE MOST COMMON FIREFIGHTER INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
Do not walk into your interview hoping you can think of good answers on the spot.

Prepare.

Questions you could be asked include:

“Why do you want to become a firefighter?”

“Why do you want to join our Fire and Rescue Service?”

“What qualities would you bring to the role?”

“Tell me about a time you worked effectively as part of a team.”

“Tell me about a time you dealt with conflict.”

“Describe a situation where you worked under pressure.”

“Tell me about a time you received feedback.”

“Why is change necessary in the Fire and Rescue Service?”

“What would you do if you saw a colleague acting unsafely?”

“What is your biggest weakness?”

These questions assess your motivation, self-awareness, teamwork, communication, integrity, resilience and ability to behave professionally in challenging situations.

ACTION POINT: Prepare strong examples from your work, education, volunteering, sport or personal life that demonstrate the qualities required of a firefighter.

TIP 4. USE THE STAR METHOD FOR BEHAVIOURAL QUESTIONS
For questions beginning with “Tell me about a time…” or “Describe a situation when…”, structure your answer using STAR:

SITUATION – Briefly explain what was happening.

TASK – Explain what you needed to achieve.

ACTION – Describe specifically what YOU did.

RESULT – Finish with the positive outcome and what you learned.

Spend most of your answer discussing your actions. The interview panel needs to understand what you did, not just what the team did.

ACTION POINT: Prepare at least five STAR examples covering teamwork, communication, pressure, conflict, problem-solving and responding positively to feedback or change.

TIP 5. THINK LIKE A FIREFIGHTER
During situational questions, your answers must demonstrate the correct priorities.

Think about SAFETY, PROCEDURES, TEAMWORK, COMMUNICATION and PROFESSIONALISM.

For example, you might be asked:

“You notice another firefighter doing something you believe is unsafe. What would you do?”

Ignoring the behaviour because you do not want to upset your colleague would be the wrong approach.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR AN AMAZON CUSTOMER SERVICE OR CUSTOMER SUPPORT INTERVIEW!
If you have an Amazon Customer Service or Customer Support interview coming up, preparation is essential. Amazon expects employees to deliver outstanding service, solve problems quickly and take responsibility for the customer experience.

Follow these five tips to prepare effectively.

1. PREPARE YOUR INTRODUCTION
Your introduction is your opportunity to make a strong first impression. Use Richard McMunn’s SEAT method to structure your response. SEAT stands for Skills, Experience, Accomplishments and Type of person you are. Keep your introduction positive, relevant to the role and approximately 60 seconds long.

2. RESEARCH AMAZON’S LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES https://youtu.be/Ta9tCwcMbXs?si=082CTwkgbGQ8KIze
Amazon’s Leadership Principles are central to its culture and interview process. Study them carefully, particularly Customer Obsession, Ownership, Bias for Action and Deliver Results. Where appropriate, reference these principles in your answers and support them with evidence from your experience.

3. UNDERSTAND WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE MEANS TO YOU
Think carefully about what excellent customer service involves. Consider how you would handle complaints, resolve problems, communicate professionally and turn a negative customer experience into a positive one.

4. KNOW WHY YOU WANT TO WORK AT AMAZON
Research Amazon’s business, reputation, culture and commitment to customers. Be clear about what attracts you to the company and how your skills and attitude will help you contribute to its success.

5. PREPARE THREE QUESTIONS TO ASK
At the end of your interview, you may be invited to ask questions. Prepare three thoughtful questions that demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and a genuine interest in performing well in the role.

Finally, practise speaking your answers aloud. Preparation builds confidence, and confidence will help you deliver a stronger Amazon interview performance.

WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES? (BEST Job Interview Answers!)

Published

on

WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES? (BEST Job Interview Answers!) #jobinterview #interviewtips #interviewpreparation #strengthsandweaknesses
Learn how to answer the common interview question, what are your strengths and weaknesses with hiring manager Richard McMunn.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A JOB INTERVIEW (7 QUICK TIPS)
Preparing for a job interview doesn’t need to be complicated. However, the candidates who perform best are usually those who have done their homework, practised their answers and know exactly what the employer is looking for.

Here are 7 quick, practical tips to help you prepare, stand out and increase your chances of getting hired!

TIP 1. STUDY THE JOB DESCRIPTION!
Print off the job description and highlight the key skills, qualities and responsibilities. Next to each one, write down an example of when you have demonstrated that skill. This will help you give evidence-based answers instead of simply claiming you are suitable for the position.

TIP 2. PREPARE YOUR 60-SECOND INTRODUCTION! https://youtu.be/W2_08tLMmyI?si=6TEXCiMdX6fauKB6
The first question is often “Tell me about yourself.” Prepare a 60-second answer that covers three things: your relevant experience, your strongest skills and what you can bring to the company. Practise until you can deliver it naturally without memorising every word.

TIP 3. RESEARCH THE COMPANY’S LATEST NEWS!
Most candidates read the company’s About Us page. Go one step further! Find out about a recent achievement, product launch or company development. Mentioning something specific during your interview demonstrates genuine interest and shows you have made an effort.

TIP 4. PREPARE 3 STAR EXAMPLES! https://youtu.be/uQEuo7woEEk?si=yxHDRB7LQSSdhDlJ
Prepare three examples that demonstrate teamwork, problem-solving and handling pressure. Use the STAR method: Situation, Task, Action and Result. Choose examples that can be adapted to several behavioural interview questions. Make sure you explain what YOU did and the positive outcome.

TIP 5. PREPARE YOUR ANSWER TO “WHY SHOULD WE HIRE YOU?” https://youtu.be/T746IXpqESU?si=czYOCqaKYADL3I8q
This is your opportunity to sell yourself! Identify three reasons why you are the right candidate. Focus on your relevant skills, your attitude towards work and the value you will bring. Avoid generic statements such as “I am hardworking” without supporting evidence.

TIP 6. RECORD YOURSELF ANSWERING QUESTIONS!
Use your phone to record yourself answering three common interview questions. Watch the recordings and assess your speaking speed, clarity, confidence and body language. This simple exercise will help you identify weaknesses you might otherwise overlook.

TIP 7. PREPARE 3 SMART QUESTIONS TO ASK! https://youtu.be/2u_5Lyz6TCA?si=oxDEXvjVr36UHnFX
Never finish an interview without asking questions. Prepare three that demonstrate enthusiasm and a desire to succeed. For example: “What would you want the successful candidate to achieve in their first 90 days?” This shows you are already thinking about delivering results.

FINAL TIP: Don’t aim to memorise perfect answers. Aim to understand what the employer needs, prepare evidence of your abilities and communicate with confidence. Good preparation will help you stand out from the competition!
