They do really quite well at making the question seem a lot harder than it is, this really is basic basic maths, it’s having the ability to figure out how to solve it as appose to having the ability to actually solve it.

Published

on

In this episode of The Agile Coach, Vivek is joined by Laurin Lukas Stahl, Head of Product at Trality, to discuss the world of product management, exploring its definition, differences from project management, and its essential role in the product development process. Laurin shares valuable insights into the skills, mindset, and structured thinking needed to become an effective product manager. The conversation also touches on the potential of AI tools like Chat GPT in assisting product managers with tasks such as generating frameworks, facilitating communication, and accelerating product development. Vivek and Laurin emphasize the importance of continuous learning and provide resources for further exploration.

HIGHLIGHT QUOTES

Product Management: Delivering Products and Building Solutions – Laurin Lukas Stahl: “Product management is the idea that there is a central person within a product squad embedded in the overall idea of what the product needs, whose responsibility is finally to deliver the product, to shepherd it throughout each and every stage.”

Product vs. Project Management: Understanding the Difference – Laurin Lukas Stahl: “The main difference is that projects have defined scopes or timelines, whereas products aim to continuously deliver value to users and strive for improvement.”

Structured Thinking: Unlocking Effective Product Management – Laurin Lukas Stahl: “Structured thinking involves approaching problems with a clear process, using frameworks specific to the problem at hand, and communicating ideas effectively.”

Lyrics:

I just wanna show you how much I appreciate you, yes
Wanna show you how much I’m dedicated to you, yes
Wanna show you how much I will forever be true, yes
Wanna show you how much you got your girl feeling good, oh, yes
Wanna show you how much, how much you understood, oh, yes
Wanna show you how much I value what you say,
Not only are you loyal, you’re patient with me babe, oh, yes
Wanna show you how much I really care about your heart,
Wanna show you how much I hate being apart, oh, yes
Show you, show you, show you, till you through with me,
I wanna keep it how it is so you can never say how it used to be!

Loving you is really all that’s on my mind
And I can’t help but to think about it day and night,
I wanna make that body rock
Sit back and watch!

Tonight I’m gonna dance for you, oh-oh

How RA Crisis Management Skills Reduced Reported Behavioral Incidents (Unrestrained Ep. 71)

Published

on

In a college dormitory environment, RA (resident advisor) crisis management skills can prove significant in decreasing the incidence of behavioral incidents serious enough to warrant reporting. (Check out our blog post about this interview: https://www.crisisprevention.com/Blog/How-RA-Crisis-Management-Skills-Reduced-Reported-B)

Since resident advisors are often the first point of contact for residents who need support or encounter a crisis situation on a college campus, their expertise in the use of skills like verbal de-escalation can be the critical difference in the diffusion of behavioral crises—and the increase of campus dorm safety.

Our guest on episode 71 of Unrestrained, a CPI podcast, is Dr. Ernest Solar, Assistant Professor of Special Education and Literacy at Mount St. Mary’s University of Emmitsburg, Maryland. Dr. Solar, a CPI Certified Instructor familiar with the merits of behavioral intervention skills including verbal de-escalation, suggested that Mount St. Mary’s resident advisor program could be strengthened by the inclusion of CPI’s Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training.

In our interview, you’ll hear about the results of a scientific study conducted by the professor that shows how, over a period of four years, the number of referrals of behavioral incidents serious enough to require reporting to the Office of Resident life dropped by 65%.

Highlights of my interview with Dr. Solar include:
What a student is really doing when they’re acting out. 4:00
Why Dr. Solar chose CPI’s Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training for his teacher candidates. 5:28
Why effective teaching depends on recognizing students’ behavioral patterns. 8:40
How Mount St. Mary’s decided to provide their dorm RAs Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training. 13:18
Why role-playing exercises in CPI training is so valuable for RAs. 15:36
The role of RA’s in the dorms and likely crisis situations which may occur. 20:20
How Dr. Solar’s mixed method study that shows the effectiveness of CPI training was designed—and the results it disclosed. 22:40

Further Listening
If you enjoyed Dr. Solar’s interview, check out Episode 46 of Unrestrained, a CPI podcast, features Dr. Reece Peterson. In the interview, Dr. Peterson discusses his journal article A Review of Crisis Intervention Training Programs for Schools (Couvillon, Peterson, Ryan, Scheuremann, Stegall, 2010), and examines issues relating to crisis intervention training in the school setting including legal initiatives, standardization of training, and the vital importance of fidelity of training across all layers of a school’s organizational structure.
