WHAT WILL YOU DO IN THE FIRST 30 DAYS OF STARTING WORK AS A MANAGER? (5 ESSENTIAL STEPS!)
“What will you do in the first 30 days?” is a common management interview question, and your answer could determine whether you get hired!
The hiring manager is asking this question for two reasons. First, they want to assess your planning skills, management competence and the impact you can have on the organisation. Second, they want someone who can work independently, take responsibility and deliver results without constant supervision.
To give a strong answer, structure your response around these five essential steps.
STEP 1 – MEET WITH SENIOR MANAGEMENT
Explain that your first priority will be to meet with the senior management team to understand the organisation’s short, medium and long-term goals. This demonstrates that you are commercially aware and want to align your team’s performance with company objectives.
STEP 2 – MEET YOUR TEAM AND OBSERVE PERFORMANCE
Introduce yourself to your team and spend the first week observing how they work. Assess their performance, communication, teamwork and existing processes before making changes. This shows you are a thoughtful manager who takes time to understand the team.
STEP 3 – LEARN COMPANY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Familiarise yourself with all relevant company policies, procedures and working practices. As a manager, you must lead by example, maintain high standards and ensure your team operates safely and compliantly.
STEP 4 – ESTABLISH TEAM VALUES AND EXPECTATIONS
Hold a team meeting to discuss performance, recognise strengths and identify areas for improvement. Establish clear team values, expected behaviours and your vision for the department. This demonstrates leadership, communication and accountability.
STEP 5 – CONDUCT INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEWS
Meet with each team member to understand their strengths, training needs and career aspirations. Use this information to delegate responsibilities effectively and align individual performance with company goals.
**BONUS INTERVIEW TIP:** Take a 30, 60 and 90-day action plan to your manager interview. Offering the hiring manager a copy demonstrates initiative, preparation and your commitment to delivering results.
Remember, the best managers don’t wait to be told what to do. They plan, communicate, take action and lead by example!

WHY YOU MUST ASK SMART QUESTIONS AT THE END OF A JOB INTERVIEW!
One of the most important parts of any job interview comes right at the end, when the hiring manager asks, “Do you have any questions for us?”
Your answer to this question could be the difference between getting hired and being rejected!
Many candidates spend hours preparing answers to common job interview questions, such as “Tell me about yourself”, “Why should we hire you?” and “What is your biggest weakness?” However, they often forget toprepare questions to ask the interviewer.

**5 QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD NEVER ASK AT THE END OF AN INTERVIEW!**
1. “How much holiday will I get?”
This could suggest you are more interested in time off than contributing to the organisation.
2. “How quickly can I get promoted?”
Although ambition is important, this could suggest you are already thinking about leaving the position you are applying for.
3. “What exactly does your company do?”
This demonstrates a lack of research and preparation.
4. “Will I have to work overtime?”
Asked without context, this could make the interviewer question your flexibility and commitment.
5. “Can I work from home whenever I want?”
This could suggest your personal preferences are more important than the requirements of the role.
HOW TO FINISH YOUR JOB INTERVIEW STRONGLY!
Never say, “No, I don’t have any questions.”
Instead, prepare at least three smart questions before your interview. Choose questions that demonstrate your enthusiasm, understanding of the position and commitment to helping the organisation succeed.
Remember: The best candidates don’t just give great interview answers. They also ask great questions!

When I didn’t get the job I wanted I used all the help you gave me, still didn’t get the job.
An affirmation made my day. It went like this. “I’m going to be a foreman In my trade on Monday” . Low and behold I’m going to work tomorrow (Monday) as a foreman for someone else. BONKERS !

i am motivated by three things
i motivated by doing a great job for my employer because this means i can earn a good salary wich empowers me to support my family i am also motivated by keeping fit and healthy which means my concentration and energy levels are always high and finally i motivated by continuous improvement and development this means i can always be available asset to my team
