32% food cost is far too high. You can't survive as a restaurant at that rate because margins are so thin. The years I've run restaurants 24% seems to be the magic number. You have to renegotiate pricing, cut portions and raise prices to offset that 8%. I've saved a number of stores underwater and food cost and employee service are the two things that if you don't have them in line, you'll go from P to L really fast.

the good news about this inflation vs the battle in the 1970s / 1980s is we have tweaked our economy ever since 2009 causing bubbles in stocks, bonds, real estate ballooning debt and speculation in markets that will create a bust in the short terms months – 2030 max time period just hold on id hold cash. we didnt have such a messed up economy until the 21st century the out come of this isnt the 1970s/1980s but mainstream cant tell you we are likely to face the 2nd worst crash in 1929… or the 6th largest home crash in 200 years

Sooo… he's managing just fine after raising prices by $3 to cover it. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…

So how much more is that BLT going to be in April when fast food workers go up to $20 an hour, ?

Restaurants will have to charge more for the food. The customers who cannot afford it can cook at home. Some restaurants will not make it. That is capitalism.

I don't think the customers should have to flip the bill Because u made a bad rental with 20k a month just in rent. Buy a building then.

March 14, 2024 at 8:56 am
I’m not a restaurant owner, but these costs sound ridiculous. $16 for a blt is crazy. I can buy 1 lb of bacon at Costco for 10$. His business model sucks.

Rents are out of control. They are 3x real value in near every case. And it's all greed.

What nobody seems to be talking about is how this flood of immigration also puts pressure on inflation particularly of food and housing. Prices are set by the market with supply and demand in play. With millions and millions of new mouths to feed going to specific parts of the country increases demand dramatically. As a result these parts of the country will experience more inflation than the rest of the the USA.

Dude has to make about 93K BLT's a month to pay his bills.. Let's break that down. That's 3,100 BLT's in a day. Assuming he's open 24 hours a day, he's making about 130 BLT's an hour. He'd better have 15-18 people working for him (3 shifts) cause there's no way in hell he's doing all that and taking care of his business by himself.
@kalmykdude
March 14, 2024 at 8:56 am
This moron pays $20,000 a month in rent and the sandwich costs $5 and he charges $15.99! Plus he signed a lease with rent increases every year! So he's charging us $15.99 for a $5 sandwich so he can make a profit of 1 million dollars! Go F urself!

Have people been to dinner lately. Restaurant salads are $30 dollars where I live. It's ridiculous. Either they are gouging, or still have a problem. Where is inflation down? My grocery bill has not seen any relief.
