Sikkim floods: Lack of warning system costs lives? | Inside South Asia

Reports have revealed that scientists were working on an early warning system at Lhonak Lake in the northeastern state of Sikkim which if fully operational could have given people more time to evacuate when the lake overflowed and triggered flash floods in early October. But the project began just weeks before the floods killed at least 60 people and left more than 100 missing. India now plans to install early warning systems at several other glacial lakes To avert such disasters in the future. But the question is why an early warning system was not in pace already in Sikkim.
