India has approved a $1 billion (₹10,000 crore) aviation fuel stabilisation fund to help airlines cope with soaring jet fuel prices triggered by the ongoing Iran conflict and wider volatility in global energy markets. The scheme aims to shield carriers from sudden fuel cost spikes, support oil marketing companies and prevent sharp increases in airfares.

With aviation fuel accounting for a major share of airline operating costs, the government says the measure will help maintain domestic and international connectivity while protecting the broader aviation sector from prolonged market turbulence
