A powerful 6.2 magnitude earthquake has struck Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido, shaking the region early Monday morning.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency and the US Geological Survey, the quake hit at a depth of 83 km, with no tsunami warning issued. Due to the relatively low population density in the affected area, the risk to life and property remains minimal.

However, experts warn that the likelihood of aftershocks in the coming days remains high—keeping residents and authorities on alert.
