Japanese biotech firm Hirotsu Bio Science has developed a groundbreaking screening method using genetically modified C. elegans worms to detect pancreatic cancer through urine samples. These tiny nematodes, known for their sharp sense of smell, react to the scent of cancer-related compounds in urine. Though not a diagnostic tool, this method allows for at-home screening and could significantly aid in early detection. In trials, the worms correctly identified all samples from pancreatic cancer patients, offering a promising new approach to cancer screening.
