Footage released by the Taiwanese Coast Guard shows a Chinese coast guard vessel sailing near the disputed islands in the northern part of the South China Sea. The Taiwanese Coast Guard reports that a two day “standoff” ensued with the Chinese vessel. “The two sides engaged in a heated verbal confrontation over sovereignty via radio at sea” after the Taiwanese vessel, the Taichung, attempted to expel the Chinese coast guard vessel, the CCG 3501, Taiwanese authorities said in a statement.
