Your lecturer is Dr. James Pickering. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Leeds where he is currently working as Associate Professor in Anatomy. Due to various publications on the human anatomy, such as “Access Anatomy: Abdomen”, Dr. James Pickering is a leading expert in his field.

The video “Femur” is part of the lecture “Bones and Surface Anatomy of Lower Limb” of the online medical course “Lower Limb Anatomy”. It gives you an excellent insight into the anterior and posterior view of the femur.

You will learn more about:

• Anterior view of the femur
• Head of the femur
– Large and spherical
– Articulation with acetabulum at the hip joint
– Contains depression medially
• Neck of the femur
– Contains greater and lesser trochanters
– Intertrochanteric line
• Shaft
• Distally: Femoral condyles

• Posterior view of the femur
• Head
• Neck
– Joins head to the shaft
– Intertrochanteric crest
• Shaft
– Linea aspera
– Medial and lateral lips
– Superiorly: gluteal tuberosity, pectineal line
– Inferiorly: lateral and medial supracondylar lines
• Distally: Femoral condyles
