OK, let’s start working through those 10 ‘MUST-KNOW’ interview tips that are going to get you hired. Write these down…
MUST-KNOW INTERVIEW TIP 1 00:51
Do not attend your job interview without first reading the job description – the job description will list the skills and strengths the employer is seeking from the ideal candidate. When they say to you in your interview, What are your greatest strengths, simply align your strengths with those listed on the job description!
MUST-KNOW INTERVIEW TIP 2 01:21
Do not attend your job interview without quickly researching the company. This is very, very important! Most people fail interviews because they know very little about the company they are applying to work for. Make sure you do the following 3 things:
1. Look at their website ‘ABOUT US’ page – learn what they do and their company values.
2. Quickly establish which are their best-selling products and services – know what they sell!
3. Follow them on social media so you are aware of their latest news stories.
Researching the company will empower you to answer the common question, What do you know about our company?
MUST-KNOW INTERVIEW TIP 3 02:26
Make sure you DRESS TO IMPRESS in your interview. I can promise you this: the interviewer will form an opinion of you within the first 7 seconds. They will look at how you dress, how you present yourself and your body language.
MUST-KNOW INTERVIEW TIP 4 03:00
At the start of your interview, when the hiring manager first greets you, make sure you give a firm handshake while looking them in the eyes. This is important because it shows good manners, professionalism and confidence. If there is more the one interviewer, shake the hands of each person.
MUST-KNOW INTERVIEW TIP 5 03:34
PREPARE a strong introduction – at the start of your interview, the hiring manager will say to you either:
INTRODUCE YORUSELF
Or…
TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF!
They will ask you either of these questions because they want to assess two things:
1. Your communications skills.
2. Whether you have the skills and qualities to do the job properly!
I recommend you use my SEAT structure when answering either question.
MUST-KNOW INTERVIEW TIP 6 04:2
There are 4 words you can use in your job interview to describe yourself that will resonate with the hiring manager. If you use words that stand out from the other candidates, your chances of success will skyrocket.
MUST-KNOW INTERVIEW TIP 7 06:09
Make sure you know what your weaknesses are. One of the top reasons why people fail interviews is because they say they don’t have any weaknesses when answering the question, What are your weaknesses? This question is being asked to assess honesty (because we all have weaknesses) and your desire to improve. The best weaknesses to give in any job interview are:
– Impatience
– Public speaking
– Finding it hard to say NO to people
– Delegating
MUST-KNOW INTERVIEW TIP 8 06:55
Take with you to your job interview a 30, 60 and 90-day plan of action! This is a printed document you give to the hiring manager that shows them what you will do in the role in the first 3 months of starting work – this document will easily help you stand out from the competition! I recommend you use this document as part of your answer to the common question, Why should we hire you?
MUST-KNOW INTERVIEW TIP 9 08:16
Prepare answers to the following 7 interview questions. These are in addition to the first question, INTRODUCE YOURSELF or TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF. Write these down:
1. Why do you want this job?
2. What are your greatest strengths?
3. How do you handle stress and pressure?
4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
5. How would you handle a conflict with a co-worker?
6. How do you organize your work?
7. What are your salary expectations?
MUST-KNOW INTERVIEW TIP 10 09:13
Make sure you ask the hiring manager 3 SMART QUESTIONS at the end of your interview! Do not ask questions about salary, benefits, time off or perks of the job.
