The United Nations has raised alarm over possible “toxic rain” in Tehran following strikes on oil depots in the Iranian capital. The UN Human Rights Office questioned the proportionality of the US–Israel attacks, noting that the targeted oil facilities do not appear to be of exclusively military use.
The World Health Organization has warned that “black rain” and “acidic rain” could pose serious health risks to residents due to pollution released after the strikes.

Iranian authorities have advised people in Tehran to remain indoors amid the pollution alert, while the WHO says it is monitoring the release of toxic hydrocarbons and sulphur compounds into the air following the attacks on oil infrastructure.

The Amarnath Yatra 2026 will be suspended from August 9 on both routes, with the administration citing the forecast of bad weather and the need to carry out track restoration and maintenance work.

The decision has been taken to ensure the safety of pilgrims and facilitate essential work by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

However, the traditional Chhari Mubarak procession will continue via the Pahalgam route and will mark the culmination of the Amarnath Yatra on August 28.

More than 4.8 lakh pilgrims have already performed darshan at the holy shrine cave this year.
