HOW TO ANSWER “TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF” & INTRODUCE YOURSELF! (2026 GUIDE)
When the interviewer says, “Tell me about yourself,” they are not asking for your life story. They want a confident, structured introduction that proves you are the right person for the job. In this article, I will explain exactly how to answer Tell Me About Yourself, give you a powerful structure, and show you top-scoring examples you can copy for your next interview.
Why This Question Matters
Recruiters use this question to assess your:
Confidence
Communication skills
Professional suitability
Ability to stay focused and relevant
A strong introduction instantly positions you as a high-calibre candidate and sets the tone for the rest of the interview.
Use This Proven 3-Step Structure (The SEAT Formula)
To introduce yourself clearly and professionally, use my SEAT Formula:

Start with the top 3–4 strengths that align with the role.
Examples: hard-working, adaptable, team-focused, results-driven, organised, commercially aware.
E – Experience & Achievements
Briefly highlight relevant experience, responsibilities, or accomplishments.
A – Ambition / Career Motivation
Explain what you want in your next role and why this particular organisation appeals to you.
T – Tie Everything to the Role
Finish by stating how you will add value to their team.
This structure keeps your answer short, focused, and impactful.

1. PRACTISE THE RIGHT QUESTION TYPES IN ADVANCE
Psychometric tests follow predictable patterns. Whether it’s numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, logical/diagrammatic reasoning, or situational judgement, the more familiar you are with the format, the better you perform.
✔ Practise under timed conditions
✔ Review your mistakes to spot patterns
✔ Use reputable practice test providers
2. MASTER THE ART OF WORKING UNDER PRESSURE
Most candidates fail because of time limits, not difficulty. Train yourself to:
– Work quickly and accurately
– Skip questions that slow you down
– Return to difficult questions later
Developing calm, efficient decision-making gives you a major advantage.
3. IMPROVE YOUR BASIC SKILLS BEFORE THE TEST
Spend 20–30 minutes per day strengthening the fundamentals:
Numerical: Percentages, ratios, averages, currency conversions
Verbal: Reading summaries, identifying key information, eliminating distractors
Logical: Spotting patterns, sequences, and relationships
This small daily habit dramatically increases test performance.
4. READ EVERY QUESTION CAREFULLY
Psychometric test providers add distractors designed to catch careless candidates. Always:
– Read the question twice
– Identify what is actually being asked
– Eliminate obviously wrong answers
– One moment of focus can save multiple wasted marks.
5. HAVE A STRATEGY FOR THE TEST DAY
Arrive prepared and composed:
Get a good night’s sleep
Ensure your equipment works (if online)
Have a quiet environment
Manage your time with discipline
If unsure, make an educated guess — unanswered questions score zero
A strong test-day routine helps you perform at your peak.

TOP 5 HARDEST INTERVIEW QUESTIONS & ANSWERS! (HOW TO ANSWER THE MOST DIFFICULT INTERVIEW QUESTIONS!)
TOP 5 HARDEST INTERVIEW QUESTIONS & ANSWERS! (HOW TO ANSWER THE MOST DIFFICULT INTERVIEW QUESTIONS!) #jobinterview #interviewpreparation #motivation
https://youtu.be/lGQddPLPiXU
HARDEST INTERVIEW QUESTION 1: TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF. 01:48
This is one of the hardest questions to answer because you will be the most nervous at the start of your interview – the question is being asked for 2 reasons:
REASON 1. To give you the chance to talk about something you should know a lot about, yourself!
REASON 2. To assess your communication skills. That is why I strongly recommend you practice your answer several times before your interview.
I recommend you talk about these 4 things in your answer:
1. The SKILLS you have that match the job role.
2. Any EXPERIENCE you can bring to the company.
3. Details of the ACHIEVEMENTS you have attained in your life so far.
4. And finally, the TYPE of person you are and what you will do in the role to add value to the company.
Those 4 things stand for SEAT. S-E-A-T. And you can easily remember my SEAT structure for Tell Me About Yourself because you will be sitting down on a SEAT at your interview.
HARDEST INTERVIEW QUESTION 2: WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST WEAKNESS? 04:32
This is one of the hardest questions to answer because most people think they should not disclose any weaknesses in an interview – they are wrong. People often say they don’t have any weaknesses, or their weakness is that they are a perfectionist! Do not say either of those things!
The question is being asked to assess honesty, because we all have weaknesses, and also your desire to improve – if you are always improving in your job, you will be more appealing to the hiring manager.
HARDEST INTERVIEW QUESTION 3: WHY SHOULD WE HIRE YOU OVER THE OTHER CANDIDATES? 06:00
This tough interview question is being asked to determine which candidate can add the most value in the role. The hiring manager will use your answer and the answers of the other candidates to decide which person they want to offer the job to! Please make sure you practice your answer so you deliver it with confidence!
I also recommend you say they should hire you for 3 reasons – the majority of candidates will give just one reason in your answer. If you give 3 reasons, you will easily stand out.
HARDEST INTERVIEW QUESTION 4: TELL ME ABOUT A TIME YOU FAILED! 08:09
This next tough interview question is designed, again, to assess honesty, but it is also designed to establish whether you take responsibility for your failures and improve.
Do not say you have never failed – instead, give a specific example of a time you failed, what you did to put things right and how you learned from the experience.
HARDEST INTERVIEW QUESTION 5: TELL ME ABOUT A TIME YOU DISAGREED WITH YOUR BOSS! 09:38
This is the hardest interview question to answer! The question assesses whether you remain calm during disagreements and also whether you are prepared to disagree with your boss if you think something can be done in an improved way to the company’s benefit.
