HOW TO INTRODUCE YOURSELF IN A JOB INTERVIEW! #jobinterview #interviewpreparation #introduceyourself #tellmeaboutyourself

RICHARD MCMUNN’S SEAT STRUCTURE FOR INTRODUCING YOURSELF!
Introducing yourself in a job interview is one of the most important moments of the entire process. It sets the tone, showcases your confidence, and immediately tells the hiring manager whether you are the type of person they want on their team. Over the years, I have coached thousands of people to pass interviews, and one of the most effective frameworks I teach is the SEAT Structure – a simple yet powerful method that ensures your introduction is clear, relevant, and compelling.

SEAT stands for Skills – Experience – Achievements – Type of Person. When used correctly, it allows you to deliver a polished and professional introduction that aligns perfectly with the job description while demonstrating the qualities employers value most. Instead of giving a long, unfocused answer, SEAT helps you communicate who you are and the value you bring in under two minutes.

Let’s break down the SEAT Structure and how you can use it to make an outstanding first impression.

S – SKILLS
Start with the core skills you possess that directly match the role. Hiring managers want to hear that you’ve studied the job description and clearly understand what the employer needs. Strong introductions begin by confidently stating the key strengths you bring to the table.

For example:
“I have strong organisational abilities, excellent communication skills, and a track record of working calmly under pressure.”

This immediately signals that you are aligned with the role’s requirements.

E – EXPERIENCE
Next, provide a concise summary of your relevant work experience. Focus on the responsibilities and environments that relate to the job you’re applying for, demonstrating that you can step in and contribute quickly.

For instance:
“I have three years of experience working in fast-paced customer-facing roles where I handled enquiries, solved problems, and delivered high levels of service.”

This reassures the hiring manager that you understand the realities of the job.

A – ACHIEVEMENTS
This is where many candidates fall short. Employers are impressed by results, so highlight one or two achievements that show your impact. These should be measurable or clearly meaningful.

For example:
“In my last role, I was recognised for improving customer satisfaction scores and was frequently praised for my reliability and teamwork.”

Achievements elevate your introduction and make you memorable.

T – TYPE OF PERSON
Finish with a confident statement about the kind of employee you are and what they can expect from you if hired. This reassures the employer that you will be a great fit for their team, culture, and long-term goals.

For example:
“I am a positive, hard-working, and committed professional who takes pride in delivering excellent results. If you hire me, I will quickly become a dependable member of the team who supports colleagues and always puts the company’s needs first.”

Why the SEAT Structure Works So Well
The SEAT method is powerful because it provides structure without sounding scripted. It allows you to demonstrate competence, confidence, and clarity – three qualities every hiring manager looks for. It also keeps your introduction focused on what matters most to the employer, rather than giving unnecessary personal history.

Whether you’re applying for an entry-level job, a management role, or a specialist technical position, SEAT gives you a reliable formula for success.
