HOW TO ANSWER: TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF! – Over the past 20 years, I have helped literally thousands of people get hired. Today, it’s your turn. In this quick lesson, I will teach you how to answer the interview question, “Tell Me About Yourself!” This will be the first question you must answer at your job interview. If you want to get hired, stay tuned and copy the answer.

TELL ME THE NAME OF THE ROLE YOU ARE APPLYING FOR IN THE COMMENTS!

TIP 1. When answering the question, tell me about yourself, keep your answer to no longer than 60 seconds. That is all it needs to be. A maximum of 1 minute.

TIP 2. Keep your answer professional – do not discuss your personal life, family, where you live, or your hobbies and interests, as these are irrelevant to your suitability for the role.

TIP 3. Make sure you practice your answer several times before your interview. You must give a confident answer because the hiring manager will be assessing your communication skills – if you don’t practice your answer and you start rambling, you won’t get hired.

Sit down in front of a friend or relative, or even in front of a mirror, and practice your TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF answer three times – this will make a huge difference to the quality of your answer at the real interview.

TIP 4. Make sure you use a STRUCTURE when answering the question, tell me about yourself. I recommend you talk about the following 4 things, in this exact order.

1. The SKILLS you have that match the job description.
2. Your EXPERIENCE or EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND, if this is your first job.
3. ACHIEVEMENTS you have attained in your life so far – this tells the hiring manager you have a track record of success.
4. The TYPE OF PERSON YOU ARE, and what you will do in the role if they hire you.

Those 4 things stand for SEAT. S-E-A-T and you can easily remember my SEAT structure for tell me about yourself, because you will be sitting down on a SEAT at your job interview.
