Scientists and engineers have proposed building a 150-metre-tall underwater wall in front of Antarctica’s Thwaites Glacier to slow its rapid melting. Known as the “Doomsday Glacier,” Thwaites contributes about 4% of global annual sea-level rise, and its collapse could destabilise the West Antarctic Ice Sheet. The proposed seabed curtain would block warm ocean currents from reaching the glacier, though experts warn the project faces extreme technical and environmental challenges.
