A report by The New York Times says a newly developed US Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) struck a sports hall and an adjacent elementary school in Lamerd, southern Iran, on February 28. The site is located near an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) facility.

Visual analysis and weapons experts cited in the report identified the missile as a PrSM, a short-range ballistic system designed to detonate above targets and disperse tungsten fragments.

Local officials reported that at least 21 people were killed in the Lamerd strike. Experts noted the damage pattern matched the missile’s fragmentation design, though it remains unclear whether the strike was deliberate or a targeting error.

The strike was part of the opening phase of the February 28 escalation between the US and Iran.
