Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued a defiant first statement as the war involving Iran, the United States, and Israel intensifies across West Asia.
In the message broadcast on Iranian state television, Khamenei called for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. He also urged Gulf Arab nations to shut down U.S. military bases, warning that attacks on regional targets could continue as Iran pursues what he called “vengeance” for recent U.S. and Israeli strikes.
The escalation comes as Israel launches a new wave of large-scale strikes inside Iran, while missile alerts and explosions were reported in multiple locations across the region.
The Strait of Hormuz carries a significant share of the world’s oil shipments, meaning any disruption could trigger major economic and energy shocks globally.
