A newly released video by Israeli human rights organisation B’Tselem has intensified scrutiny over the death of a seven-month-old Palestinian baby in the occupied West Bank.

The footage appears to challenge the Israeli military’s initial account that troops fired after perceiving a vehicle accelerating toward them. The video reportedly shows the family’s car slowing down and stopping before shots were fired.

The infant, identified as Sam Abu Haikal, was killed while both parents were wounded. The Israeli military has acknowledged the incident and launched an investigation into the shooting.

In the Philippines, thousands of people evacuated the area south of Manila after Mayon Volcano erupted and authorities advised the public to stay out of the six-kilometre radius danger zone. The volcanology institute issued Alert Level 3 on its five-step scale, reporting strombolian activity and short-lived lava fountaining from one of the country’s most active volcanoes. It also warned of possible landslides and lava flows.
