Since 2007, Israel has maintained a strict naval blockade on the Gaza Strip’s 40 km coastline, significantly intensified during the 2023–2026 war, restricting maritime access to zero in 2025. The blockade, which aims to prevent weapon smuggling, has crippled the fishing industry, created a severe humanitarian crisis, and resulted in frequent interceptions of aid flotillas in international waters.
