India submerged in heavy rains and other top stories

Heavy rains in several parts of India have led to flooding and water logging in many cities and towns in the country… Millennium city Gurugram has witnessed massive traffic jams due to water-logging… Mumbai’s Andheri neighbourhood has come to a standstill… And bangalore is witnessing rescue operations being conducted in boats… Meanwhile flash floods in the northern state of Uttarakhand have forced thousands to relocate till the rains subside.

Staying with India, a couple was allegedly hacked to death by a shopkeeper in the country’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh… The trigger was an argument that broke out over a packet of biscuits worth fifteen rupees… The incident occurred in Mainpuri… The stronghold of the state’s chief minister Akhilesh Yadav… The owner of the grocery store has been arrested.

Pakistan on Thursday said it is unaware of any talks being tabled… Between Islamabad and new Delhi on the sidelines of the Saarc meeting on august 4th… Suggestions of a meeting surfaced with news of India’s home minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Pakistan next week … And the escalating tension between the two countries due to unrest in the Kashmir valley over the last month.

Four convicted drug offenders were executed in Indonesia this morning… Indonesian authorities clarified that two Nigerian citizens, one Senegalese and one Indonesian were executed… Petitions to review their cases had been denied… The authorities have not decided when the remaining ten convicts will be executed by firing squad… Among them is an Indian national Gurdip Singh… However, his execution has been suspended till further notice.

And in a deal valued at 1.26 billion U.S. Dollars.. Chinese pharma company Fosun will acquire 86 per cent of India’s gland pharma… A definitive agreement has been signed for the deal which could be the largest acquisition of an Indian company by a Chinese firm.
