THE MAKEUP BREAKUP – Winky Lux Mini Lip Pill | Is this tiny lipstick a rip off?
We are digging in to some of our Holiday makeup purchases for The Makeup Breakup and decided to start with this teeny tiny Winky Lux Mini Pill Lipstick Kit. Do they contain what they claim?

This set retails for $29.00AUD ($16.00USD) and with the ‘claimed’ weight the value should work out to $2.90AUD ($1.60USD) per gram. A full size Winky Lux Lip Velour retails for $23.00AUD ($14.00USD) and contains 4g of product, making the value $5.75AUD ($3.50USD) per gram so the mini set it not only gorgeous but supposedly a great value. If we estimate based on our results that this pack contains approximately 4.55g then the value works out to be $6.37AUD ($3.51USD) per gram, far from the good deal that it appears to be on the surface. It is likely that the pack was mislabeled and was supposed to contain 2g in total – which would make sense as the useable portion of the lipstick roughly contains 0.4g of product (0.4g x 5 = 2g). If that is the case then these cost $14.50AUD ($8.00USD) per gram and is horrible value for money.

Thank you for your hard working videos and passion for keeping the beauty industry transparent. This error just came to our attention when you featured it in your video. We have been working hard to edit all the artwork and to make sure our retailers send back anything with incorrect weight. Please remember we are a small start up team and this product is brand new (it’s never been made before by anyone). Unfortunately, while working hard to innovate very tiny pill minis we put the total weight on the box instead of the net weight. This was an honest mistake by a designer on our team who has literally been in tears for hours over it. We feel terrible about it and certainly never meant to mislead customers. These types of human mistakes have happened to many companies and we wish someone would have simply emailed us about the error. Our customers mean the world to us and everything we do is designed to make them happy. So i think with the honest weight on the packaging, there would be no issue. That being said I love winky lux but they are not a small company anymore. Are rainbow lip balm separates after a few days of owning it ( multiple reviews stating this ). I ordered their lipstick with the cat shaped core. They sent me five free products as an apology when I posted about it on their Instagram, however two of the lipsticks where damaged, one quite badly. and the confetti lip balm have a scratch on it as well and what appeared to be a few little particles sticking out of the lipstick itself. I assumed it was the confetti but it didn't catch light like the confetti does. Seems like on a replacement package for a customer they could at least make sure everything's in order

$16 US for samples? Because that's what these are, they're samples. They're adorable, but that means that each of these samples (and I'm going to continue to call them that as I'm also one of the people who remembers the AVON samples that were this exact size) costs $3.20 American. Absolutely no way are these worth $3.20 each. I'm sorry, I'm one of those people who falls for cute, overpriced, gimmicky makeup, and it's a no even for me . . .
As a side note, I suddenly had flashbacks to an iced mulberry sample shade I had for YEARS as a child. Don't even know where it came from, and I never used it, I just remember it floating around in my toybox.

I always assumed that the 2 grams was combined, since clearly the minis amount to the equivalent of one full size lipstick. It's priced similar to a full lipstick, only you get the color variety and convenience of the mini packaging.

This is a stupid product, you'll loose them, and all the tiny plastic packaging is bad for the environnement. Get one normal lipstick that will last you for a very long time, you won't loose, and you'll make sure to recycle the tube.

Hey, I just noticed that when the lipstick was initially weighed, the lid was not on, but when weighing the packaging afterwards the lid was included. I realize that either way the product was underweight, however, I do wonder, how much it actually was underweight. i.e. How much did the lid add to the weight of the packaging for their calculations?
